10.4: Take a translucent Spotlight window screenshot

I just tried this with the Dock, to see if the screenshot remains translucent.

Well, no dock icons appear in my screenshot. Is this true with everybody?

Nothing appears behind the stark blue ribbon (the Dock, sans icons) in the screenshot, confirming the hint.

Finally, it appears we can now take screenshots of individual icons within the Dock. Is this Tiger only?

Dock icons do not appear in screenshots.

If you want Dock shots, try Ambrosia Software's Snapz Pro X.

Just use the selection tool instead of window-only screen capture mode.

What?!? Icons appear in screenshots I made, whether via Apple-Shift-3 or Apple-Shift-4.

No Dock icons here too (OS X 10.4.2), when using the select window tool (SHIFT+COMMAND+4 then space bar). But you can easily get a full Dock picture using SHIFT+COMMAND+3, then selecting the Dock, then crop.

Cheers

It does not capture dock items because it sees those as separate pieces to the actual dock.

BTW, the selection shortcut is Command-Shift-4, with Control toggling whether it copies it to the clipboard or saves it as a file on the desktop.
