Possibly recover a missing RAID stripe

Hmmmm - very interesting.

I had an issue where I had configured two HDs as a striped pair RAID 0 under Tiger 10.4.2. Everything worked well under Tiger. However, when I booted using my internal Panther partition the Panther system 10.3.9 did not recognize the Striped HDs.

As an experiment I saved off my data on this striped pair whilst under Tiger and then booted to Panther and created the Striped pair there. Of course Panther recognized this striped pair. I then booted to Tiger 10.4.2 and Tiger also recognized the striped pair. I can now go between Tiger and Panther with the Striped pair always being recognized.

I still wonder why Panther wouldn't recognize my Tiger created striped pair of HDs though!

Tiger uses a new RAID format that is incompatible with Panther. Panther RAIDs work in Tiger, though.

The AppleRAID 2 in Tiger can't be read by a 10.3 workstation.

After you update a system to Tiger you should use the convertRAID verb of diskutil to make sure your RAID sets are up to date.
