In LaunchBar, this opens multiple instances of the calculator widget (didn't test other ones)... and they're a pain in the ass to remove from the dashboard.

Quicksilver also launches another instance of the widget. But you can remove them by holding Option as you hover over them. The little circled "X" appears and you can make them disappear without opening the Dashboard bar.

You can avoid this double opening behavior in quicksilver the same way you avoid it with .term files, using the Open With action instead of just open, so Quicksilver->Name of Widget->Open With->Dock and only one instance will be created.

This procedure creates yet another widget (google, dictionary...), with the current version of Dashboard and OS X, on my machine... Does anybody know a different way of not spawning an additional widget instance, when opening a widget with QuickSilver? This would be very handy for many of them!

If you just need to invoke the Dashboard layer to access a widget that's already open, then just use Quicksilver to invoke the Dashboard, instead of calling for the specific widget. I think this hint's a lot easier for launching widgets. I don't really leave many running at one time, but still use a few on occasion, and with this hint, I don't have to use the cumbersome strip at the bottom of Dashboard to open a widget I want to use temporarily.
