Spotlight ignores '.noindex' named folders
Authored by: marklander on Jun 14, '05 11:59:12AM

I read that the Finder doesn't honor Privacy settings but I couldn't reproduce this in my tests.

Anyway, folder.noindex seems to hide its contents from Spotlight and Finder searches, even when the extension is added to an existing folder. Remove the extension and the contents become searchable.

Interestingly, if you search for something in a Finder window and then add or remove the .noindex extension from the containing folder (on the desktop, perhaps), the Finder window will update to reflect the change.
