Spotlight ignores '.noindex' named folders

BUT, does this work like the Privacy setting? ie does it just prevent Spotlight from finding stuff in that folder, while still indexing it? (And the Finder Find would find it). If so, it's just an ugly alternative to the Privacy setting.

Or does it actually block indexing? That would be great! No indexing many megabytes of temp download files, and no finding in a Finder Find. But how would you un-index it after changing it? Or is that automatic?

I don't want to try this yet - I had heck of a time getting the initial Spotlight indexing to work and don't want to mess with it.

Well my machine keeps loosing the privacy settings so this a better way of ensuring that soptlicght doesnt get 'lost' in my fonts folder again. (or reindex the external firewire drive every time)
