I believe you're right, since many users have had luck with exporting problematic calendars, re-importing them, and then deleting the old calendars. If you're experiencing this problem, would you mind emailing me the old calendar file before fixing it? This will enable me to track down the problem and solve it for good. Finding the calendar file will require some digging in ~/Library/Application Support/iCal/Sources, since the keys for the calendars aren't descriptive at all. But if you look inside each of the .calendar folders at corestorage.ics (open in a text editor), you should be able to see which is the correct one for the problematic calendar.
