10.4: A possible easy fix for non-running applications

I didn't have this problem, but I did notice that for some apps like Mathematica 5.1 the .app now shows in the Finder. This was not the case prior to 10.4. The .app shows even if I have preferences set to hide file extensions. Not all apps are effected, for example, my Photoshop 7.0 and Acrobat Distiller 7.0 apps don't display this behavior. Puzzling.

My resolution to this Photoshop problem was:

sudo rm -Rf /Library/Caches/* /System/Library/Caches/* ; shutdown -r now
