Fix Cisco VPN driver problems

This trick partially worked for me (and many other people) only after the network admin set the default user domain on the Cisco VPN server. I can connect. I can use SMB, LDAP, IMAP and everything else I try except the thing I really need it for, AFP access.

If I try to access an AFP share I get a kernel panic. I haven't seen any reports of working AFP shares using this VPN client.

Good job, Cisco. It's been years since we've seen something so important to the Mac community screwed up so badly. Get on the ball and make it work.

In the meantime, does anyone have a solution for the AFP problem. It's the only thing keeping many of us from using 10.4.

I haven't tried this personally, but you might try tunneling the AFP traffic through an SSH tunnel within the VPN tunnel. That would be a dirty, disgusting way of doing it though, not to mention pretty inflexible.

Tunneling AFP over SSH works with and without the Cisco VPNClient on 10.4.

Setting up on the client isn't too hard if you use SSH Tunnel Manager (http://projects.tynsoe.org/en/stm/).

NOTE: Don't turn SSH on your AFP server without securing it to a decent level (level 2 only, no root access, good passwords).

Nothing works for me. I have tried this on my own back when the new dmg was posted on Cisco's site and thought that maybe I missed a step. I did not. I get something that I have not seen posted elsewhere yet: It says that I am connected but no packets go through and I cannot disconnect the session either. I must force quit just to move on.

This is a brand new 1.67 GHz Powerbook G4 with 1 GB of RAM.

This stinks! I hope someone fixes it soon!

I have exactly the same situation on my PowerBook 12" 1.33. Everything seems to work fine (the client says that I'm connected) and that's it, the connection isn't working and it is impossible to disconnect or to quit the program. I gave up and decided to wait for the next version. Thanks, Cisco! :-(

Tris.
