10.4: Use the 10.3 System Preferences application
Authored by: MattHaffner on May 23, '05 11:46:42AM

Those of use that are (or were, in my case) missing the old shortcuts and the bar are completely missing the (new) point. tifighter (2 posts ago) notes the real power now:

"Depending on how nested the function you're looking for is..."

And it bears repeating more explicitly. Next time you go to the pref panel, think of *exactly* what you're going in there for and type it in the box. Not just what panel you want to bring up, but what *setting* you want to change. Yes, you might be presented with a few choices, but when you select that choice, you are taken right to where you want to be. Not just the tab, but even into a sub-sheet on a tab.

For example, if you want to swap modifier keys type 'modifier' in to the search field and hit return (it's the first choice, so there's now arrow/pointer needed). You're taken right to the modifier pref *sheet* not just the tab with the button that gets you there. I was annoyed for a few days, but now I'm sold...
