10.4: A possible fix for missing imported Mail messages
I had lost all of my 'sent' messages (since 1999 - Grrr! ) after having upgraded to Tiger.
After trying all of the above tips, all of Macfixit tips, nothing was working. But I found an excellent an very reliable solution. • I launched MS Entourage 2004 (shame on me, I know ;-), cleared all Entourage accounts, and asked it to import all of my Apple Mail messages. • Once done (took forever, but I had no choice), I cleared everything inside my ~/Library/mail directory, launched Mail again and asked it to import all of my Entourage accounts. • Once done (took forever again) everything was here. I just had to sort everything in its right place (Inbox, Sent messages and everything else). It even saved me hard disk space because now Mail saves mails as standalone files, but it doesn't removes old "mbox" files when importing at first launch. (5 Gigs saved for me !) Conclusion : Entourage mbox importer works perfectly. Apple's doesn't. Shame on them 8-( P.S. Sorry for the double post. |
