Doesn't work with old pmac G4s
Authored by: atallj on May 14, '05 12:58:20AM

I tried to install tiger onto my c. 2000 G4 (AGP) pmac but it didn't work. Doing it your way of booting off the dvd mounted on my mini from the G4 hung during boot, and installing it onto a G4 partition from my mini hung after rebooting subsequent to the install (exactly the same type, i.e. signs, of hang as before). So I have to say that Apple needs to revise their claim of tiger running on *all* G4 AGPs, or at least say in advance for it to run on those machines, it needs blahblahblah, i.e. there's a distinction between saying it can run, and it *does* run.

Note: when calling Apple support, the support person was more interested in determining if I had multiple versions of tiger running rather than solving the problem. It was a bit hard to convince the guy that when only 9Gig of it was allocated for the mac world of the total 130Gig of hard drive space I had for that machine, and the rest was for linux, that I was using it as a mac machine and not just a test bed for determining whether tiger was going to screw me around. In the end, I had to figure out how to install tiger onto the partition that subsequently would not boot. I think of this experience as evidence of the progressive microsoftification of Apple.
