10.4: Hide Fink's /sw directory ... or any directory

The Finder always did respect the attribute. The only thing you couldn't set the attribute on was symbolic links (not aliases).

Remember that a lot of these folders (maybe not /sw) are owned by root, so you'll need to use sudo.

If You use 'SetFile -P -a 'V"' that will allow you to hide symbolic links.

However, SetFile no longer works for separate mounted partitions as it once did
in Jaguar. Does anyone know how to hide separate mounted partitions without
turning off show hard disks in the finder or creating a symbolic link to /Volumes?

I guess I like to mount partition volumes directly under the / partition.
