10.4: A detailed look at 10.4 Server
For those that use OS X Server, I am confused on the "number of clients" issue. I am looking at OS X Tiger server for 3 or 4 things: Apache, WebLog Server, Jabber and DNS Server - that is all it will do for the world to see. I don't use mail, I don't use file server (other than FTP access to Apache directories). Do I need to care about the number of "client" licenses I purchase for it? Apple reps are a bit divided over this (with me). I think i can get the 25 user license and be OK with servering those 4 items to many more people - or am I wrong?

The client limit relates to the number of authenticated users you can have. As long as the services you want to run are available anonymously (eg, DNS, Apache), there is no restriction on the number of users.

According to this document it is ony AFP connections that count against the AFP license limit so perhaps a 10 user license will do in your case. |
