10.4: Reveal Spotlight items in Finder
Authored by: yoel on May 11, '05 07:16:38PM

Thanks, I'd been looking for a way to do this.

Note that if you hate taking your hands off the keyboard, like I do, using the arrow keys and command-enter also works.

command+enter does not.

Invoking the Spotlight menu search and hitting command+enter when you have navigated to a PDF file in the search results DOES NOT reveal the file in finder, as the technique in this thread's hint states.

For the search results of a Spotlight menu search (i.e. top left of menu bar), holding command while pressing up or the down key will make the highlight jump from one group to another (i.e. first in the application category to first in the folder category to first in the PDF category, etc.), but pressing command+enter on an item other than a folder WILL NOT reveal the item in Finder.

Bringing it back to the hint that started this thread, bravo! I often search for items and just wish to have it revealed in Finder, so this hint is awesome! Sure, I have to lift my hands off of the keyboard and use my trackpad or trackball, but it's worth it.

Actually, with all due respect, I need to correct you. Or at least set the record straight. :) On a powerbook, for example, the DEDICATED 'enter' key does not work as described, but the 'return/enter' key does - and very handily, too.

So, to summarize everyone thus far, to find anything on your computer (by default, only visible files) and opening a finder window to dilsplay: 1) command-space to open spotlight's menu, 2) type what you are looking for, 3) use the up and/down arrows to hi-light what you want (optionally using the command-up/down to jump from section to section), 4) command-return to view it in the finder! I only wish shift-command-return would bring it up in slow motion!

Done and done (whatever that means!)
