10.4: Install and use PureFTPd Manager FTP server
If anyone else found that one could not connect using ftp after Tiger, the following may be the issue. Starting with Tiger, I guess, the fields for passive ports in the settings uses the systems international settings, which here in Sweden, for example, means that port 1030 to 1035 becomes 1,030 to 1,035. The server, naturally, dislike the use of a port such as 1,030. These settings can be changed manually in the Terminal by sudo-editing the file /etc/pure-ftpd/pure-ftpd.plist. You may have to restart the server after the change, and it will then work as expected. The author says this will be fixed in the next release.

Can anybody here post updated instructions to handle a Mac located in a NAT'ed network. For the life of me, I can never seem to find the active/passive component of FTP working properly in a NAT'ed network. I promise, I will share the hint on my own page if I get it to work easily.

Late reply... So you have to edit the file /etc/pure-ftpd/pure-ftpd.plist manually to add the public IP of your server:
