no go with toast

About 10 minutes before noticing this hint I tried to upgrade my Toast 5.1.1 to 5.1.2

When I launch the installer I get "Error creating file. 1008:5,-5000 Access denied error".

5.1.1 was installed automatically in /Applications/Roxio Toast Titanium 5.1.1 and that's where I left it.

I never have problems with other installers.

Sigh.

Yeah, apparently this particular installer requires the root directory of your boot partition to be world writable.

This is obviously a terrific security hole and also means sendmail won't work. Not only that, but there seems no legitimate reason for configuring an installer to actually have this requirement!

Anyway, just make your root world writable, do the install and then tighten up security again.

"Anyway, just make your root world writable, do the install and then tighten up security again"

that did the trick. Thanks.

I'm now kicking myself for not having done this already. I tried restoring group writability to '/' but didn't try world writability. Doh.

And how do you make your root world writable? I just upgraded from 10.2.8 to 10.3.3 and now toast does not work. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling but no joy....
