Research on fully using this feature

I was pleased to see this feature added to 10.4, but sadly, it does not allow for different settings for multiple keyboards. This becomes an annoyance for me, as I have a Logitech Cordless Desktop MX keyboard and mouse which I use with my Powerbook. While I'm at my desk, I need to swap Cmd and Option for the Logitech, but not on the built-in keyboard when I take it with me. So I decided to start hunting for where these settings are stored.

After a couple hours of poking around, I located the plist that contains these settings, and began deciphering the format they are stored in. I have the format info, and what I think is the means to modify it on the fly. I am going to work on a script of some type to make changing the settings easier. Once I have this finished, I will submit everything I have as a full hint so that it gets more visibility than this older topic.

In the meantime, if anyone has some info on how to detect a USB keyboard being plugged in/removed and call a script when this happens, I would be much obliged.

Stay tuned!

Hey Greengeek,
