This also works the other way around

You can also put the computer with the DVD drive into target disk mode and then its DVD drive will show up as a drive on any computer to which you connect the computer-in-target-disk-mode to.

At least it worked for me with a 1 Ghz TiBook whose (Super)drive would not read a self burned DVD. A nearby dual 1.8 Ghz Powermac read the DVD but refused to play it because no region code had been set yet (and with no admin rights I could not set it).
Booted up the Powermac in target disk mode (with the DVD already inserted, I think), connected it with a Firewire cable to my Powerbook and the DVD showed up on the desktop and played fine (without asking for any region codes).

I am having some difficulties with an installation on an older eMac that only has a CD writer drive. I do have two newer model iMacs (15 & 17 inch LCD models), each with a super drive, and i have purchased the Tiger family pack.

When I boot the emac, attach the iMac with a firewire cable and reboot, the DVD drive and its contents do not appear on the eMac!

If I boot the iMac normally and then boot the eMac in target mode (using the firewire cable), then the eMax hard drive shows up, but the installer still wants to reboot my iMac! Odd.

Should not the DVD drive be present on the running system when an iMac is booted in target mode?
