10.4: Install Tiger via Target Disk Mode

I thought this was a fairly well-known method - I've used it in the past to install 10.3. I've also used this for troubleshooting to boot a machine that gives me trouble from a hard disc that I know has a good working OS on it.

Something worth knowing: holding down T only works with newer macs (I wish I could recall exactly when this was instituted).

Also worth mentioning, is that if you have a Firmware password enabled, you won't be able to use target mode until you disable that.

10.4: Install Tiger via Target Disk Mode

Ian,

I've used Target Disk Mode since 2001 in both OS 9 and OS X. I've been able to utilize this function with any Mac equipped with a Firewire connection (going back to 2000 models). I don't know the exact date that this feature became available (sorry!) but have used it almost daily since the Fall of 2001 when I bought my first Mac.

The "T" mode only works with Macs that have Firewire ports.
