10.4: Add Nokia 9300 iSync support
Authored by: dsdhall on Apr 30, '05 05:57:23PM

doesn't work on a nokia 9500. (big brother of the 9300).

Isync produces the error:
The connection was lost while talking to the device.
Device "9500" synchronization failed

and the phone produces an error of KERN-EXEC 'reason 3'.

Has anyone actually got this working on a 9300/9500 ?

Oh, the one thing it does successfully is wipe out any existing contacts, so beware if you entered them by hand :)

I had no problems with this "hack" and my nokia 9300. Contacts and Calenders synced as the should. I tested this several times right now without any problems. However I still can´t send sms-messages via my adress book.

Hi,
I never used the sudo command and it seems that I can't get it to work as in the first post... I tried it with logging in as root and manualy editing the file, but I can't get it to work with my nokia 9500... With the BT setup assistent I can't even choose iSync. What am I doing wrong?

Can somebody explain this to me more cleary (babysteps please).
I can make the icons if you're still looking for them?

Thanks,
Kenny

You don´t actually have use terminal commands to make the modifications. Open the iSync program package content.(right click or ctrl+click on isync icon) Browse to the

>contents>PlugIns>ApplePhoneConduit.syncdevice>contents>Plugins>phonemodelssync.phoneplugin>contents>Resources

Open the MetaClasses.plist in textedit and make sure you are editing in plain text mode>> add the modifications shown earlier. Make also sure that you have a nok9300.tiff file added to the same folder.

It is possible you added the data to the wrong bit of the MetaClasses.plist file. Try adding it before the last two lines, i.e. the final:

</dict>
</plist>
Make sure you don't have isync open when you do this, and make a backup of the metaclasses.plist file before you edit it!

I've got it to work!

First I had to empty my contacts dbase (contacts.cdb). After that I also deleted the cmgr.ini file and reinstalled the AppleSyncAgent. After these steps everything is working!

Thanks all!

I'm now creating the icon files.

Regards,
Kenny

Hi Kenny,
Awesome icons! Only problem is the 9300 icon that is closed has the 9300 opened on top of it.

Because off high demand, I created archives containing all files :

Icon files
MetaClasses for 10.4
MetaClasses for 10.4.1

Seems that upgrading os x ("iSync") revert the changes. Use these files on your own risk!

Kenny

I got my contact database corrupted while trying this. May I ask how do I delete the contacts.cdb? When I try to do it, it says that the file is currently in use. Is there a way to force delete or clear all my contacts so that I can refresh it with a newer copy? Thks.

I persevered and managed to get this working. Needed to delete any existing pairing between the phone and the mac, and power-cycle the phone before I could get it to work.

Excellent news!

9500 syncsw perfectly!
Authored by: ae on May 05, '05 07:50:44AM

I had the same mistake (Kernec, reason 3, no sync, etc...). What I did that it worked:
1. delete all contacts in 9500
2. delete sync agent from 9500
3. delete 9500 from isync
4. turn out bluetooth on mac and 9500
5. close isync on mac
THEN I DID:
1. Connect mac and 9500 per bluetooth
2. put and doubleklick 9500 to isync
3. try isync (it will not function but writing the message to install isync agent on phone)
4. Install sync agent on 9500 (never mind bad messsages)
5. write 1 Contact into 9500 (Name, Phone, adress, etc...)
6. start sync (NOT the Option to "delete" data on 9500, but the Option to put data together!!!!!!!!!)
7. mark contacts, calender and sync. Voila.

That was the way I sync and it works perfectly on Nokia 9500. Hope I could help someone with the same problems I had.

I also noticed that I have to reinstall the *.sis file every time I reboot the communicator. Does anyone else noticed this?

Fortunally, I don't need to reboot my commie very often :-)

Kenny

9500 syncsw perfectly!
Authored by: jms on May 07, '05 02:45:09PM

This appears to work for me as well on my 9500, but I'm hesitant to run this as "production" because of the inability to drive the "iSync Config" tool. Can anyone say what the config tool does? I'm guessing a few settings here and there, but are they important?

Anyone know where the tool came from and any chance of getting it to work on a Series 80?

jms
