The location of the AliasBadgeIcon.icns file has changed in Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger:

/System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Resources/

Thanks jchapman! Good sleuthing on the location of AliasBadgeIcon.icns in Tiger.

Like the poster that most recently preceded you in this thread (nearly a year ago), I had trouble switching permissions on the file using the Finder's Get Info pulldowns. Rather than following arun's advice about changing (and unchanging) permissions for both parent folder and file, I fired up Terminal.

Since the procedure isn't detailed anywhere in the thread, here's what to type in Terminal:

cd /System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Resources

Hit Return, then type:

sudo mv AliasBadgeIcon.icns OldAliasBadgeIcon.icns

Hit return again, enter admin password at prompt, and it's done.
