Change the Sent Messages mailbox name in Mail

I second (or third) the posters above who suggest doing this through the GUI interface. Also, for completeness' sake, you can do the same thing in Outtaluck Express:

Menu: Tools->Accounts
Click the name of the mail account
Click the Properties button
Choose the IMAP tab
Make sure 'Store special folders on IMAP server' is checked
Put your sent folder's name in the box labeled 'Sent Items path'

I think you can do the same thing in Outtaluck XP and 2003... the IMAP tab doesn't have the special folders stuff in Outtaluck 2000, which is what I'm stuck with here at work.

When I use the GUI to make Mail.app's "Sent" folder my "Sent Messages" folder from my IMAP account, them "Sent Messages" folder doesn't disappear (like it does when I assign folders to Drafts, Junk and Trash). Anybody know how to remedy this? Thanks.

Move everything from it to your newly designated Sent box. Then delete it.

I had the same issue and I had to change the preference setting for Sent mail to store it on the server instead of in a local folder. After that, my Sent Items (outlook) folder disappeared as the others had done and became my Sent folder.
