I've seen problems trying to "map a drive" on Windows to an Apple share using the netbios name of the Apple server. But using the ip address of the server will fix this problem.

Or use the FQDN of the server (i.e. server.mydomain.com). If you haven't created one, it's recommended that you do so, even if it's only internally accessible (and therefore only needs to be in your internal DNS server).

Its preferrable to not use the IP because if you ever need to change the IP, if you have your mappings based on the name you can just change the IP the name points to. Otherwise, you'll need to touch each workstation to update the mapping.
