Replace Safari's tab changing shortcuts in 1.3+
Authored by: onbongos on Apr 21, '05 10:37:26AM

cmd-shift arrow keys are for selecting to beginning/end of line. something i do far, far more often than switching tabs from the keyboard. so i'm quite happy with the change.

Though the standard Mac convention is that cmd-arrow (without the 'shift') should move to the beginning and end of lines. They could have used that and stuck with the old shortcuts. But I use iCab (cmd-shift-arrow to switch) and Camino (cmd-opt-arrow to switch), so what do I care. :-)

Yes, this was the reason for the change. That is why the old shortcuts work unless the mouse focus is in a text field. Then the text selection functions use those key combinations.

Personally, I think in a web browser URL field, the text selection mechanisms aren't needed - they're more for Word Processing. But they felt the need to make the change anyway. I really feel that in a browsing environment, the arrow keys made more sense.

Word processing? No way. I use command, option, and shift with the arrow keys everywhere for selecting text or moving the insertion point, even when renaming files in Finder. I always thought it was weird that they used those key equivs for switching tabs because they are more commonly used for text.

Hey, you a drummer? Me too.
