10.3: Print from Windows XP to a shared Mac printer

Must have Windows Sharing On
Must have Printer Sharing On
Must go to to add another printer that is your USB printer but with a shorter name. (you may need to have root and password.)
Must select (when adding the new printer)
Device: Epson CX5200 (or similar-its your printer)
Model: Epson Stylus Color, CUPS +Gimp-print v4.2.5(en)
that should make the printer.

Must go to Epson Website and download the printer drivers for 5200. Only drivers. Install them.
Must go to control panels-to the printer section.
Must add new printer.
Must use the http://your.emac.ip.address:631/printers/short_name_of_printer
Once it finds it (it should) Select from the Epson drivers. And you should see your 5200 driver. Install that one.

Now, go to properties of the new printer.. and print a test page. :)

I have a 6600 and after much futzing with it.. it finally printed.

That works prefectly. And, you don't need to have root enabled to do this. A username and password with admin privileges works just fiine.

I used it to connect my G4 (Tiger) with my XP laptop (Service Pack 2), printing to an HP Deskjet 932. Used the Gimp Print HP 900 series driver for CUPS.

Thanks much! Now the teens can print their homework without having to run upstairs and unplug the printer from our Mac! (Try to guess how often they plug it back in. Yea, right.) :)
