Use a MySQL-provided database management tool

Of course, for a real database, you'll want to wean yourself of MySQL and pop on over to PostgreSQL instead. See the PostgreSQL advantages for the positive reasons, and the MySQL gotchas list for the compelling reasons.

PostgreSQL instead of MySQL

While those may be compelling arguments, for most people, switching isn't an option. Most web hosts offer MySQL, not PostgreSQL, or if they offer PostgreSQL, it's for more money. Also most PHP (probably the most popular way to program a website) based applications are MySQL native, not PostgreSQL (and who wants to try to customize it?).

PostgreSQL instead of MySQL

I agree. I would like one day to use postgreSQL, however, it isn't as easy to learn. Go look at hotscripts.com and see how many tutorials there are writen, then look at the php scripts, and see how many use postgreSQL... not many... Though it is a great alternative and maybe better, this seems like a case of beta vs vhs.
