Why not just install the MS UAM?

Put the Microsoft User Authentication Module on the client machines and you shouldn't need to monkey with the security options on the server. You can get it here: http://www.microsoft.com/mac/otherproducts/otherproducts.aspx?pid=windows2000sfm

Because MS UAM is only for connecting to AppleTalk shares on a Windows server. Most Windows server operators don't want to use AppleTalk at all.

I installed MS UAM, but I still have the same problem. The guys at my office are not so crazy about changing the settings on the server. Any ideas?
