Reset fan behavior after 10.3.8 update
Does anyone know of a way to fix this on an iMac G4? I have a 17" 1.25 GHz iMac G4 whose fan has been running for about a year. Even immediately after bootup, with nothing running on the machine, the fan is running.

The iMac G4's fan always runs. You can't pack that much computer into that small a space without actively moving air through it. (The iMac G5s always have the fan on as well, but they run at greater range of fan speeds than the G4's).

My iMac's fan didn't run constantly until some 10.3 update. Ever since then it runs 100% of the time. It used to run like my PowerBook - it used to only come on during periods of heavy CPU load.

No it didn't like it is now. The fan is multispeed. Mine used to be whisper quiet, only revving up under heavy processor load. Now it is on high most of the time. This is a definante change to the iMac behavior. |
