Print to a missing Windows shared printer in 10.3.5
Authored by: Michaelangelo on Mar 03, '05 04:07:28PM

It's been an ongoing hobby of mine, trying to print a network printer in my small office. My hangup was the Unix print services thing. I thought that checking Macintosh print services would be sufficient, but apparently that's for printing form OS 9. This hint works equally well with 10.2.8 although you may have to put in your print servers IP address rather than its name.

Print to a missing Windows shared printer in 10.3.5

I've wrestled with this problem for about 3 weeks now.. and think i've found the problem..

We have a Windows print server with 30 queues, of which only five show up under Windows Printing in 10.3.8.

I noticed today that the 5 queues that _did_ show up had shorter names than the ones that didn't.. So i changed the share name of one the non-showers to a MS-DOS 12 character compliant share name, and bingo! It appears under Windows Printing...

So. give your Windows Printers a Share Name of 12 characters or less, and you're in business..
