AutoHide

Unfortunately, AutoHide has gotten nothing but buggy as newer versions of Mac OSX have come out. It has terrible problems about hiding system-level messages and events, such as the message that pops up when you try to log out. My recommendation would be Spirited Away. (Click the first link in the post to download.) Great little app. The only downside compared to AutoHide is that there is no mod key that you can hold down to temporarily turn it off. The menubar item has a toggle, though, so it isn't a huge deal. And, compared to AutoHide, Spirited Away is far smarted about what to hide and what not to hide. It works great, and you can even set the amount of delay you want when hiding apps after a switch.
