AutoHide
AutoHide v1.3.8
AutoHide is a simple background application that will automatically hide applications after you switch out of them. This is convent if you work with applications that have many windows and switch between them often. AutoHide will automatically hide your other applications, reducing screen clutter and making a cleaner work environment.

AutoHide
Unfortunately, AutoHide has gotten nothing but buggy as newer versions of Mac OSX have come out. It has terrible problems about hiding system-level messages and events, such as the message that pops up when you try to log out.
My recommendation would be Spirited Away. (Click the first link in the post to download.)
Great little app. The only downside compared to AutoHide is that there is no mod key that you can hold down to temporarily turn it off. The menubar item has a toggle, though, so it isn't a huge deal. And, compared to AutoHide, Spirited Away is far smarted about what to hide and what not to hide. It works great, and you can even set the amount of delay you want when hiding apps after a switch.
