There's no need to delete the text from the template. Directly select the placeholder image as described in the hint and all that's copied to the clipboard is the image, complete with border and drop shadow. Nice one! The only limitation is that the resulting JPEG needs to be placed on a white background.

Since my site is white, I never even noticed, but if you insist... You can also export your Pages document as HTML, which will generate the html file, a css file, and png files of your images, complete with some sort of alpha channel magic. Which means they don't have the white space behind the rotated image. Niiiiiice...
