Search selected folders in Mail.app

Thanks for pointing that out! In the past, I ran several searches because I saw no way to choose which folders, among many, I wanted to search.

I can confirm that this trick works with Shift-clicking, and offer audiojack a little tip about the difference between Shift-clicking and Command-clicking:

With a Command-click, you can add or remove any item from the currently selected items. Try it: Cmd-click a folder near the top, then another that's near the bottom of the folders, then a folder somewhere in between. Cmd-click one of these folders to unselect it again.

Shift-clicking selects a range of folders, almost as if you dragged a box around them with your mouse. Shift-click the top-most folder. Now shift-click some folder beneath that one; all the folders in between will be selected.

Shift-clicking is good for selecting a contiguous range of folders; Command-clicking is good for times when you want to select random folders that aren't contiguous [adjacent to each other, in other words].

You'll find these same selecting tips work in other programs that allow multiple selections, including the Finder. Even Windows uses these conventions [just use the CTRL key instead of the CMD key].
