10.3: Create a system install DVD

Use Slipy:

http://www.mirrors.ausmac.net/ftp/Internet-Buzz/2004-11-November/slipy-13.dmg

This great little program was 'lost' to the internet for a while but it is now mirrored in the above link; it allows you to create a Panther install from a DVD or the 3CDs and then allows you to add extra packages. You can choose to do a full install or customise the install (take out languages you won't need for example)
After it has read the DVD/CDs it will then ask you to add the packages you want to install - I have added the 10.3.7 update, Quicktime 6.5.2, ARD update, iSync and iCal, all Airport updates, a TWAIN install and EPSON Airport updates for the SP830U printer.

It really is worth getting Slipy to avoid all the hassle that seems to be going on trying to get this hint to work.

I haven't been able to make it install iTunes or iDVD as they are metapackages.

The process takes about 15 mins and you are left with a disk image you burn with Disk Utility.
It takes longer than the original DVD to boot up but after that it really zips along.
I've found that repairing permissions after the install and rebooting again is the best option after the install.

10.3: Create a system install DVD

Wonderful, Slipy works great!

I made a master DVD with the 10.3.9 Combined Update on it. Seemed to boot fine in my old G4 Tower but I didn't go further with it. It did cheese up in G4 iBook but I've had that happen in the past with burned Panthers and sometimes a different disc will work.

Thanks for the shortcut!
