running Mac Mini headless?
Authored by: LouieNet on Feb 06, '05 01:52:20AM

I'm seriously considering getting a Mac Mini to run headless as a server at a remote colo site. How are people's experiences with running it headless? Do I need to do anything special? Do I have to have Server s/w for it to behave well? Do I need a VGA adapter or something to trick it into thinking a monitor is attached?

Thanks!

"All of which makes me wonder: Why the hell buy a mini?"

To enjoy as a desktop system. Just because you can't reliably run Server on it doesn't make it useless.

Apple clearly doesn't support the Mini with Server.

But Apple most clearly does support Mac OS X Server on the Mac mini. From the technical specifications:

Requirements: Xserve G5, Xserve, Power Mac G5, Power Mac G4, Macintosh Server G4, Power Macintosh G3 (Blue & White), Macintosh Server G3 (Blue & White), iMac, eMac or Mac mini computer
