Reinstalling OS X on a G5 with an nVidia 6800 Ultra
If your old drive was still installed and connected on the G5 that may have been causing the kernal panics by locking up the bus. Usually the boot cd will handle a Video Card with default drivers. The boot rom for the Power Book has now been installed on your G5. For my self I have not seen this issue before on any G5 except for the fact that the new G5s will not boot from 10.3.5 Retial install discs. Actually any computer built after the 10.3.5 Retial discs will not boot from those retial disc resulting in a Broken/Frozen Grey apple. These things I address everyday at work. Ah the life of a Service Tech.

Just to be a stickler...that's spelled "retail", not "retial".
