Audion 3 is now a free do-it-all audio application

I just switched to it from iTunes. I may be the only person on the planet to say this, but here goes:

I hate iTunes.

I just want a program that works as well as WinAmp for playing mp3s and streams. iTunes just can't do it. I don't want you organizing, I don't want you thinking for me. I realize your a Mac app and I'm a Unix guy, but when I say "go away," I mean it.

If I drag a list of files to play them, just play them. That's all. What's so hard about that? Why don't you understand streaming? There are all manner of Applescript things to get it to understand m3u files, but, since you're supposed to be the premier music player, you don't do that correctly without all the fuss.

That huge, bloated interface gets in the way. I don't like the "brushed metal" look (I'm on a freakin' computer, fergawdsake). I suppose it's great if you buy music from iTunes or have an iPod (I won't and I don't).

I really like Audion. It does exactly what I want without the additional crap. If only I could figure out where to put the additional skin files...

The "additional skin files" go in a folder called "Faces" which can be placed in the same folder as the Audion application. This just might be why the distributed dmg archive includes a "Faces" folder sitting right next to Audion. Optionally, you can create ~/Library/Audion/ and put the "Faces" folder in there. This method allows each user to keep their own collection of faces.

Btw, this is all explained in the file "About Audion.rtf" which, amazingly enough, is also sitting right next to Audion within the distributed dmg archive.
