Mail.app and selected sending account

>> Hopefully, this will help keep someone else from going crazy trying to figure out why Mail.app is doing what it is doing.

I'm going crazy trying to get Mail.app to display a "Sent" mailbox for my gmail account. Sent messages simply disappear, but where to? Please help. I'm so stupid you wouldn't believe it. Thank you.

I have a Sent Mail folder for GMail. Have you sent an e-mail from your GMail account in Mail.app? Mine didn't appear when the account was created, but it did as soon as I sent an e-mail. Come to think of it, the same thing happened with the Trash or Junk folders for this account (as if I need a Junk folder for GMail). HTH.

Well, sort of. I have sent mail from my GMail account, but this was only possibly by means of applescripting the outgoing message (the mail was successfully sent, I think, but didn't end up in any Sent mail folder, it just vanished). When I compose a new message in Mail.app, however, I only get to choose from two out of three active accounts. The GMail account is not an option.

Maybe you should try unchecking "Store sent messages on the server" in the "Special Mailboxes" tab of the "Accounts" preference pane ?
Normally this should create a new mailbox in "sent".

Makes sense, if only I could see this option in the preferences (Mail.app 1.3.9). "Special Mailboxes" only allows me to choose when to erase copies of sent messages, junk and trash. Nothing else. There's a similar option under "Advanced" in my Hotmail account, though, which uses "Daniel's HTTPMail Plugin", but apparently none for regular POP accounts. Or am I missing something?
