Burn DivX/AVI movies to CD
Authored by: chienr on Jan 06, '05 08:38:58PM

What if the DivX/AVI file is over 800MB? Is there a way to split it? Better yet, does Toast automatically split it into two or more CDs?

You mean 700MB? Toast does not allow overburning and it doesn't do splitting as this is not that easy. There are probably tools around which do that, and I think there are also burning tools which do overburning but then again I don't know which internal writers used by apple support overburning.

I'm new here so I don't know why it didn't have an option to quote the original post, but this is in reply to questions from chienr.

If the avi file is not too much bigger than 800MB, then download Missing Media Burner at:
http://homepage.mac.com/rnc
It allows you to overburn CD's, a feature which PC users have had available for some time in Nero. The only problem is that different brands of drives and blank CDR's may not all be capable of being burned to the same capacity. then too your DVD player could potentially have trouble reading an overburned CDR also.

You can split or join divx avi files using ffmpegx. Personally if they're bigger than one CD, or in VCD format on two or more discs, I just convert them to a DVD format using a combination of programs. You can get a lot of info and links to Mac software and tutorials at dvdhelp.com

Explicit is a nice and easy-to-use application for splitting AVI files:
