Automatic file save promt on download?
Authored by: flipflop on Jan 03, '05 04:36:07PM

Does anyone know if it's possible to get Safari to automatically show a Save dialog when a file is about to downloaded, to avoid saving everything with stupid names to the same folder?
This can be done with Camino, and it's my only reason for using it rather than Safari.

No, that doesn't work with redirects. You end up saving some useless HTML file that contains a URL.

Automatic file save prompt on download?

I have this same pet peeve, so I thought of using folder actions. I tried one that moved the file on add, but ended up with 2 copies of the download, one in my Downloads folder, and another in the folder where I wanted to put it. Idea was to at least move it into a subfolder which categorized it (utility, editor, game, etc.)

How about a folder action to rename a file on detecting a new file being added? I know with OmniWeb I can rename a file even while it is downloading and it doesn't seem to mind.
