iMovie doesn't export non-DV codecs...

What's more, say you're an animation student making a demoreel.

To keep quality you used the animation codec when creating and editing your reel in FCP.

Now, if you went through iMovie first to create chapter markers before going to iDVD, then the demoreel would be converted to DV codec, losing it's pristine quality, before going to iDVD.

If you went straight from FCP to iDVD, you would be feeding iDVD's Compressor the codec you were using in FCP, thus resulting in an MPEG2 stream that is closest to your original FCP clip.

Perhaps a better hint regarding chapter markers would be that taking the time to create and name your chapter markers in FCP saves you from naming your scene markers in iDVD later (without having to go through iMovie).
