miniaturized app windows (or Finder backgrounds) not working
Authored by: stutemp1 on Nov 15, '04 07:17:03PM

My system seems to have a serious glitch... items that are "backgrounded" apparently stay in the foreground and become non-responsive. For example when I try these hints to keep the mini-windows, they do remain onscreen, but they are non-functional... drag/drop does not work on them, buttons on apps or links are non-responsive etc. and I cannot "click-thru" them.

I also cannot use the apps that allow screensavers or webbrowsers etc. to become background Desktop items. Doing so loads them to the foreground and they do not respond to keystrokes so I can not quit/force quit or exit them... however, if I click around on the screen (sometimes blindly if a screensaver is activated) or try keystrokes (like for force quit) it seems as if something in the background is responding as I usually end up hearing the error "beep" like when you try to close a dialog without choosing "ok" or "cancel". The only way to regain control is to reboot via power switch.

I have a G4 Mirrored Drive Door model with the ATI 9000pro graphics card, OSX 10.3.6, and 17" Apple studio display. I've updated the ATI drivers to the latest, and the system has behaved this way since OSX 10.2.x.

Like the user who found this miniturizer hint helpful for distiller, I have some drag/drop apps, etc. that I could use it with. Any ideas why my system behaves this way?
