Low-Tech Alternative: Desktop Pictures
Authored by: Ray_Toler on Sep 26, '04 01:44:56AM

I'm sure the products mentioned in the comments as well as the pick of the week are fine and work well, but they seem to be complex solutions to a pretty simple problem.

For years, I've been using a desktop picture I created with the various standard browser sizes drawn in nested squares. Back in the dark ages before decent machine-written code, I even had some HTML cheat-sheet text on there as well.

Kind of a low-tech solution, but it's worked for me for a long time - I was fortunate to have a big monitor before they became plentiful and cheap, and actually seeing the size of the other screens on my desktop really helped. (Which is, of course, the whole point of apps like this pick of the week.)

I also never have to worry about it breaking with the next OS update. ;)

I do like those javascript resizes, though... I'll have to add them to my bookmarks.
