f___ the ads, i'm disappointed in you rob

i am going to take a dissenting view here.

i've been a member of macosxhints since close to the beginning and have anted up twice for my membership and contributed hints and i feel like we the contributing members should have been consulted.

i don't like the ads, i don't like the direction it hints at.

rob if you needed more money just ask us for it.

i would happily have sent a little more this year just to keep the site as it was. on the other hand, if i'd known you were going to blindside the contributing members with ads, i very well may not have contributed this year.

i don't know what these glorious plans to upgrade and improve the site but it sounds to me like feature bloat. the site works just fine the way it is. simple and to the point.

the ads seriously interfere with its clean functionality.

come to your sense, dump them and ask us to pay again. we will.

this commercialisation of all available space is a blight on humanity and has rendered most of you americans, deaf dumb and blind.

some of us don't live in america and would like to keep our eyes and our concentration.

i am very surprised by many of the encouraging comments above, praising commerce in every shape and form and every possible venue.

i agree with the few above who find it offensive that a website that is built on community spirit and sharing and open solutions is running banners for microsoft.

adding ads and extra useless functions sounds like the beginning of the end at it was for macfixit when they took to bilking their readers with ridiculously high membership fees and tried to turn their resource into a mini-microsoft. indeed, many of the members here are refugees from macfixit. - when was the last time YOU visited macfixit?

I came here from MacFixIt, and also still visit them daily.

Alec, if you don't find what the other sites on the web provide to be useful enough to justify themselves, start your own and show us all how it's done.
