Change has come to macosxhints.com...

I fully support the decision made to put an Ad on the site. With all the time that Rob spends on the site, and work, and with family, it's amazing that the quality is as high as it is. I too will click through at least once a day. I also will send in some extra $$$ as a sign of my appreciation of all the effort over the years.

On another note though...some people have commented on the fact that they will use OmniWeb to block the ads. Do you not understand that this will not help Rob or the site at all? If you don't see the ads, you can't click through, and there will be no revenue coming into the site. While this feature is good for general sites you are navigating to on a whim, sites like macosxhints.com that rely on the revenue from the ads are hurt severely.

Rob says he has new features coming to the site. I think the least we can do is take 5 seconds to click through...

More power to ya Rob!

I use Safari with PithHelmet and popups blocked, so I'm not seeing anything new. I don't mind tasteful, non-blinking ads; it's mostly a bandwidth issue for me. I think the audience here is knowledgeable enough to block ads if we don't want to see them, so pop away!

Actually, if Omniweb (like Firefox's adblock) downloads the ad, the impression will be counted.

And if people just click on ads and do nothing, the advertisers will begin to discount the value of a click through.

Though what I do do is if I need a product, then I go through a web ad on a site I like.

dansdata.dealtime.comis a good example of that. (Dan also has a good policy on adblocking - search and read it).
