Sogudi is nice too!

Sogudi (available at http://www.atamadison.com/w/kitzkikz.php?page=Sogudi) is another great little app. It hasn't been updated in some time--it's been at 0.4.3b since I started using it in November 2003--which I guess means it hasn't had any problems. Anyway, Sogudi does its magic by modifying Safari's Address bar to accept parameters. The first string you type into the Address bar determines how the rest of the string will be treated.

Here're some examples:

I'm a big fan of SafariKeywords
http://safarikeywords.sourceforge.net/ (sorry no html skill)

You just type the keyword first and your search is directed to that engine.
ie. imdb Office Space finds that movie at IMDB

You can add or edit the searches as you see fit through a Prefpane

Sogudi vs. SafariKeywords
Authored by: sjk on Sep 01, '04 06:44:15PM

The Sogudi shortcuts window is launched directly from Safari; SafariKeywords uses System Preferences. SafariKeywords uses the search field so searches are saved; Sogudi uses the address field. I prefer Sogudi because I like having a long address field without the search field so long URLs fully visible more often.

Anyone know of other significant differences?

Sogudi vs. SafariKeywords
Authored by: sapporo on Sep 02, '04 09:00:46AM
I actually have a new version of SafariKeywords that uses Safari's prefs panel instead of SystemPreferences. I should have released that a while ago, but was too busy..

I hereby promise to release it on Sourceforge next weekend.

BTW, the first incarnation of SafariKeywords was a hint here on macosxhints.com.

Sogudi vs. SafariKeywords

I'll probably stick with Sogudi as long as SafariKeywords uses the Google Search field that I prefer to hide.

I use Launchbar to search many websites from any app.

Command + Space to launch Launchbar

For me "IM" equals IMDB, "V" equals "versiontracker", "G" equals google

ex. Command +Space --> IM + space (to select it) --> "Lord of the Rings"

Real slick. I think you might be able to do similar things with Quicksilver, but I am a longtime Launchbar user.
