Use speakable items to control Exposé

By any chance are you (even the British) who have experienced problems with speakable items using an iSight as your mic? This hint intrigued me, but, despite my ultra-standard Midwestern U.S. news anchor accent, I gave up after several minutes of shouting obscenities at my iSight.

Finally I searched Apple's support site to find that the iSight was not supported for speech recognition at all until 10.3. I am running 10.3.5 on a Sawtooth G4, but I still can't get it to recognize any command more than 0.0000000003% of the time (yes, it does work intermittently, making it all the more aggravating).

Has anyone out there gotten an iSight to do what they tell it?

As far as using iSight is concerned, there still does seem to be a bug.

Even after upgrading to 10.3.6 Speech recognition won't work with my iSight from startup. (Dual 2gig G5)

Previously, it had worked consistently well for me when I had a seperate mic plugged into line-in.

After much frustration and fiddling with Sound and Speech settings I managed to get it working reliably (ish). Meaning, each time I switch on I have to change the one same setting and after that it works perfectly. Hope this works for you too.

In Speech/Speech Recognition/Listening, go to the Microphone setting and change it to Line in (instead of iSight). Then click the Volume button and just change it. It doesn't seem to matter what you change it to. Then change back to iSight as the Microphone.

Bizarre, I know but it's the only thing that has worked for me so far.

Hopefully, you should now find that the animation in the speech recognition circle/icon will change to the two inward pointing triangles when you you speak, rather than the red/amber/green volume meter.

The mic on the iSight camera is excellent I find, once you get this little irritation sorted.
