Me too -- I've still spent ages re-ripping stuff, but having 30GB of it preserved on the iPod saved quite a bit of time.

As far as file sizes go, most JPEGs tend to be very small compared with the size of the audio. The ones from Amazon, for example, are rarely much more than 30KB or so, which is usually less than 1% of a track.

My preferred site is www.walmart.com, which generally has artwork at the larger size of 500x500, but even these are usually under 50KB. I think that, given those file sizes, 500x500 is a reasonable size for artwork. (Especially as when you click on artwork in iTunes to see it in a separate window, iTunes expands it by 50% in each direction!)

However, convert those to PNG and the file sizes increase rapidly -- often 5 times larger, and sometimes over 10 times! *Then* it starts to take a significant fraction of the audio file. That's why I thought people should be aware of this issue!
