anyone know if it's possible to send from a .mac alias using Mail, or is it just when web-based?

send a request for aliases in Mail

I don't think there is a way, so I sent the mail team a request. Here is what I said:

Dear Mac OS X Mail Team,

Mac OS X Mail needs to work with .Mac mail aliases. I hope the Mail team is already working on this feature for 10.3.5. At present I can't think of a single feature that would be as valuable to me and all other Mail and .Mac users. This is a must have feature. If it isn't already planed for 10.3.5 please consider including it.

Sincerely,
edalytical

I think everyone should send a request, you can use the form at: http://www.apple.com/macosx/feedback/

Yes, you can use an email client like Apple Mail to send out emails from your email aliases address.

You have to setup POP or IMAP (not .Mac because it's your main account) account. Just that the incoming and outgoing info are the as your main .Mac account.
