Better than Tilde.
Better than Underscore.

Go through the Character Palette and look at the Unicode -> Miscellaneous Symbols section of Lucida Grande.
There are some musical note symbols which I stick at the beginning of playlists I want to be first in the alphabetical list. (Copy and Paste).
The great thing is these character aren't even displayed on the iPod. No odd characters, no question marks, no blank space. It just omits the character but retains the order you have created by using them.

Oh and it's spelt L O S E
